A timeline of the history of Catalina Island in the 2010's.
2011 February
Water regulators cited the City of Avalon for letting tens of thousands
of gallons of sewage reach the ocean in six spills since 2005.
2011 May
In May of 2011 a wildfire near the Isthmus Yacht Club
burned about 117 acres of land.
2012 February
A cease and desist order was issued against the City for illegally
discharging polluted water into Avalon Bay.
In 2014 Avalon Beach was removed from a list of the most polluted beaches
because of the City of Avalon's efforts to improve the situation.
Those efforts incuded spending $5.7 million on sewer main
improvements, inspections, and tracking systems.
2013
The city of Avalon celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.
2014
The Catalina Island Company's development and remodeling projects
including a spa, an aquatic facility, a community center, new hotel,
and 120 new homes. The largest project was a new $6-million museum building on
Metropole Street to replace the museum in the Casino building.
