of Land Management and the Tahoe National
Forest Office of the U.S. Forest Service.
Wild and Scenic: Lower American River
A 23 mile section of the Lower American River, from
its confluence with the Sacramento River to the
the Nimus dam, was declared a United States National Wild and Senic
River on January 19, 1981. That section of the river recieved
a "recreational" sub-designation.
Wild and Scenic: American River North Fork
A 38.3 mile section of the north fork of the American River,
from .3 miles above Heath Springs, downstream
to a point 1000 feet upstream of the Colfax-Iowa Hill Bridge,
was designated a United States National
Wild and Scenic River on November 10, 1978.
That section of the river received a "wild" sub-designation.
